"Still have no diagnosis"

About: Princess Alexandra Hospital (Harlow)

Anything else?

Third day mumhas beenin Winter ward and I went with my brother and son. We asked a ward sister for my mum's diagnosis and she said she would give us a list of her treatments. After 15 minutes she brought a sheet of paper saying the ward was closed for admissions because of Norovirus and could we wash our hands before leaving and we should not go in there if we have had diarrhea in last 48 hours..as there was nobody at the door when we entered we did not know this..a bit late I think and have Diarrhea every day as I have had IBS for 30 years! I left soon as a flash leaving the men to enquire again about mum's diagnosis. I was far too hot in the ward and went to the entrance of the hospital. My son was sent out shortly after as they were only allowing 1 visitor at a time (why did they not mention this earlier?). My son tied to get some information but was given a verbal list of drugs mum was on by a nurse who kept pointing to signs instead of explaining something we needed to know-she was not receptive...it seemed to be about the hygiene precautions but was not really interested in our concerns about mum. My brother tried again but was told she had to have another blood test and they didnt know if she is coming home tomorrow or Monday or staying in much longer. I accept they are waiting for a respiratory assessment and apparently mum is not on a respiratory ward but I dont accept that it is taking so long and the communication between the ward and us the relatives has been dire. There did not appear to be any doctors there today. My mother was transferred from AEU to Winter Ward and nobody let us know- and i am listed as her next of kin. I only found out when I rang AEU for their assessment and they said they no longer had her notes and to try Winter . I still do not know what the main speciality of Winter Ward is and my mum does not have a consultant yet? Will this scenario improve on Monday? Watch this space. All this is difficult for us because only half of us have cars and most are at work all week days.
