"Early morning admission to A and E"

About: King George Hospital

Anything else?

I was close to collapse on arrival and was treated excellently by all staff, from the receptionist who rushed me through to a cubicle, to attending medical staff in A and E. I cannot fault my treatment through to the assessment unit and admission to a ward. I did feel sorry for the radiographer working in a very cold, dismal x ray room. Apart from a short wait in a cold corridor waiting for x ray to open, all processes went smoothly. Treatment on the ward was variable but conditions were clean and food reasonable. Staff on the ward would benefit from adhering to the patient charter and involving patients in their care. At this stage, apart from being grateful I was feeling better, I felt I had no meaningful communication with nurses and the ward consultant was very rude to me.

Thank you for giving us feedback on your care. I'm really pleased to hear that you had excellent treatment in A&E and in radiology. I was sorry to hear that there were issues with communication with staff on the ward. It is very important that staff do involve patients in their care. Simple measures like asking patients whether they have any questions or whether there is anything they would like to discuss with the doctors or nurses can really help people manage their condition. We are working with our staff to ensure they involve patients more and I reinforce this during my clinical shifts with my senior team.

Best wishes
