"Very poor and lengthy wait"

We arrived at a and e at 23.30 approx . My 89 year old father as the patient and my mother who is 86. After waiting half an hour to get in , in a corridor we were placed in a private room with dirty linen and dressings on the floor of the room and top. A nurse soon come and quickly dissappeared after taking my fathers B.P and relevant observations, We were told that blood would be taken as the main reason for my father to be admitted was he was severly anaemic. A nurse then came took bloods , then dissappeared. Approx 2-3 hours after seeing no docter we were begining to get very fidgety, We approaced a staff nurse to see what the problem was, a docter soon arrived telling us that the bloods were not labelled correctly and more would have to be taken again which was quite a traumatic task as it was very hard to get blood from my father, the doctor assured us that they would be sent off straight away and a further blood sample would be taken by him. one - two hours went by and after attention was given to remind the doctor that he hadnt taken the 2nd blood sample. He did come quite quickly. We then remarked that my father was very uncomfortable and it would be nice to have a mor comfortable bed for my dad as it was looking like my father was going to be addmitted but no beds on any wards. Obviously no bed turned up. We were told by the doctor that it would be extremly dougtfull my dad would receive any blood before the next day. No drink was offered to my mum, very poor communication and poor care. At approx 5am we were told a blood transfusion would be started in A and E. Approx 6am we received the blood for my Dad. We decided to take my mum home for a few hours, On our return after complaining at 11.30 my father was given a bed on the department. A urine bottle filled with urine sat on the top most of the night after I decided to empty it down the visiters toilet, after being instructed by a domestic to do so. My father has an ileostomy which was bursting at the seams. I requested it to be changed as my father had his arm with a cannula for the transfusion and he has a damaged hand so he couldnt change it himself. I asked 2 nurses who reluctantly changed it after a wait and said my father should of done it. At approx 2.30 in the afternoon approx 15 hourslater he was transfered to a ward. hmmm I think this is extremly unecceptable that my father was dragged out of his bed for transfusions with no intention of getting one untill the next day, We were ignored and treated with no dignity. I feel the elderly are treated with very little respect.
