"Why can have physio and not podiatry treatment?"

About: Dewsbury Health Centre / Podiatry

(as the patient),

I live in Bradford and am seen in Dewsbury for physiotherapy treatment following a referral by a consultant at Pinderfields General Hospital in wakefield. The physiotherapist in turn referred me for treatment by a podiatrist, again in Dewsbury.

However when I phoned the podiatrist to confirm my appointment I was told she could not treatment as I did not live in the Kirklees/Dewsbury area.

Why is it I can have physiotherapy and not podiatry treatment?

Hi Koala326

Without knowing the specific details about your case it's difficult to be 100% accurate with our response. However:

The physio department at Dewsbury District Hospital (I'm presuming that is where your were seen) is not a Locala service and therefore is commissioned differently and I am unable to comment as to how they accept their referrals.

The Locala Podiatry service currently offers the podiatry service to patients within our boundaries however in the future, it may be possible to look at offering care to those outside of our traditional boundaries. Thanks very much for your feedback as it clearly shows that this would be of benefit to you. Thanks

Gemma
