"My husbands care"

My husband was admitted with alcoholic liver disease and developed pneumonia while in the hospital in June 2012.
He was weak, could not speak properly and always cold.
He was left with clothes simply draped over his shoulders, with no water within reach and when he could not eat or drink, was not prescribed with a drip to hydrate him until I asked. Equally, when he could not eat, he was not even prescribed with an energy drink until I asked the Doctor - would have assumed this to be common sense let alone a medical requirement. When I complained to the Doctor, he said "not to pass the buck but that is a nursing issue"!
Extremely difficult to get a doctor to speak to me; had to involve the Ward Manager who finally arranged for someone to call me. Messages passed by nurses were clearly not passed on.
On the day he died, his strong antibiotic was admisitered but almost immediately the canula came out and despite my constant nagging, it was 4 hours later that he finally received the drug he should have had sooner.
In my view, with proper attention to hydration and sustainance for energy, let alone administering important drugs on time, he may have been able to pull through the pneumonia to allow the liver treatment to continue.
Furthermore, my mother was admitted last week and is now home....although I did not know this until I had tried calling the bedside phone several times and finally someone answered to say...."she went home today"!
I would not wish the "care" and "treatment" administered by this hospital to anyone and will certainly ensure that I never enter it - I hope the senior staff have the opportunity to sample the delights of this state of the art hospital to understand what is not happening.
