The nurse rushed me when I went for an Xray. I was asked to get undressed down to my pants but because of a muscular condition it took my quite a bit of time to do this. After a short while the nurse asked if I was ready and in the rush I forgot to take my bra off. I can understand being rushed if the unit was very busy but there was only me there.
I was prodded, poked, handled very roughly and not spoken to well. I felt like meat being handled. Afterwards I was let to get dressed, there was no explanation about where to put the gown.
Later that day I had to return to the xray unit with my brother as he also needed some xrays. The same member of staff was there as before. They took my brothers crutches and glasses from him. My brother has a condition that affects his mobility and also has problems with his sight. Despite these problems he was expected to stand for the xray, he found this very difficult. When they asked him to move, causing him to bang his head, no empathy was shown.
When he came back out and we returned to the consultant he broke down because he was so upset about his experience in the xray department. The consultant said we could report the incident, we were given the PALS information (the Patient Opinion information was on the leaflet). I think the xray department should have a comments box as they do in the consultation area.
