"Food Challenge Clinic - Nut allergy"

About: Guy's Hospital

Anything else?

2 of my sons are allergic (anaphylactic) to nuts and have lived for 12 years avoiding all nuts. We have always known that they are not allergic to all nuts and so were delighted to discover that they could undertake food challenges to the nuts that the doctors thought unlikely to be problematic, and therefore hopefully reintroduce some nuts into their diet.

To date both my sons have been seen by the Guys's and St Thomas's food challenge clinic on 3 different occasions and have therefore undertaken challenges to 3 different nuts. Results have come back showing that 1 son is neither allergic nor anaphylactic to any of the 3 nuts tested so far and the other son is Ok with 2 of the nuts and allergic but not anaphylactic to the other nut.

This information is so helpful to our family, me as their mother but mostly for my 2 sons as they now know that they can eat, and more importantly not avoid or worry about these particular nuts.

The doctors and nurses in the clinic are helpful, professional and explain what they are doing and what they know about nut allergies. Having seen various medics over the last 12 years in respect of nut allergy I have found the staff in this clinic the most well informed and best able to impart their knowledge to both me and my children.

I am hugely grateful for the testing that they are doing on/for my children, aged 17 and 19
