"The nurses or doctors failed to speak in 7hrs."

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Gateshead)

Anything else?

I am currently lying in the medical assessment unit after being admitted for blackouts and no feeling in left arm or leg. Since being put on the ward and being tol a heart trace would be done not one nurse or doctor have even spoke to me in 7 hours and counting. This is disgraceful they didn't even change my bed! Blacked oiy 4 times since 11 and can't feel my atm but just been left in corner.

Thank you for providing feedback on your visit to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. I am sorry you felt our staff did not treat you in timely manner whist on the ward as we try very hard to ensure the best possible care for all our patients. Following you comments the matron did visit the ward to address your concerns however was unable to identify any patient on the ward at that time who expressed dissatisfaction at the care they were receiving.

With regards to staff not changing your bed. I am unsure of the circumstances why you felt the bedding needed to be changed however it may be useful to point out that the medical assessment unit is a short stay ward where patients are assessed before being transferred to a more specialised base ward. As patients are only on this ward for a short period of time the normal procedure is that the bedding is changed when the patient is transferred unless of course there are any specific reasons for the bedding to be replaced.

We take any negative feedback seriously and we use comments such as yours to help in the future training of our staff.

If you would like us to investigate the specific issues you have mentioned, we would need you to raise this with us directly. If you would like to do this please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 0800 953 0667’
