Had a session with the above this morning. The endlessly hardworking, endlessly cheerful and friendly, endlessly skilful and endlessly efficient ladies of the Endoscopy Clinic whipped me in, did the business part of their job, gave me a good hot cup of tea and toast and whipped me out again in 3 hours, all with great good humour and strong support of me and the other patients. Also the doctor on the scope. If you want to talk to one of the nurses when it’s not your turn, which comes around very quickly, you have to run beside them to do it. They come running to you if you move in your chair, to see if you are ok. There were 9 customers in their morning shift, with an afternoon shift to follow.
And how useful was this? Well, no-one can call me a time-waster. I spent about an hour with the scope up, and had 6 polyps (up to 12mm) removed as well as two biopsies, and had one tattoo(!) put in me. All the resultant information will shortly be put in front of my GP, who may then be able to tell me what’s wrong.
I think that’s absolutely wonderful, and I salute the NHS workers I met today, and everyone else who does their work out of love of their fellow humans, and not to further their selfish greed, which is a cancer on the human race. If only we had a way to cut that out!
Colchester General Hospital Elmstead Day Unit, Thanks and goodbye for now.
