My dad was in the Palliative care unit at the Wansbeck for three weeks before he died late last year. The care, concern and consideration shown to my Dad and all the family was outstanding. We cannot praise the staff involved highly enough. Consultants ,doctors, nurses ,and all ancilliary staff were pleasant , helpful and cheerful in the face of very distressing circumstances and made the situation much easier to cope with. They provided a safe comfortable and pleasant environment for all of us.

Dear Joan,

I was sorry to hear about the loss of your father and would want to send my condolences at this difficult time as you learn to adjust to life without him.

Given these circumstances, it was incredibly kind of you to contact us to describe the outstanding care you received on our palliative care unit at Wansbeck and all that this meant to you, your Dad and your family last year.

We are understandably proud of our palliative care teams. I believe they really understand their special purpose in healthcare; caring for people when they are perhaps at their most sick, frightened and vulnerable. I also know how hard they strive to create the healing and calm environments their patients need. I glad we were able to offer this to your Dad during his last weeks. I am also glad that our care extended, as it should, to you and your family.

I will pass on your note of thanks to the team – I know how happy they will be to receive it.
