"Lack of ongoing mental health preventative support"

About: Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust / Adult mental health

(as a carer),

Over the years my wife has suffered horrendous mental illness with times of being sectioned at Rauceby, Grantham and Stamford Resource Centre. With medication she is managing to keep from the extremes but the aftercare she used to receive to help her be able to be more relaxed and less fearful of daily life events has been taken away.

She is on fast track so if there is a problem she can get help quickly but her sufferings continue daily and since the preventative aftercare is no longer available her anxieties and fears have increased. She has attended courses aimed at understanding and self help for these problems but unfortunately this is not of much use in her case. Her daily fight with troublesome thoughts that ruin not only her life but are also affecting me more now after 21 years of being her sole carer & husband.

She used to have a relaxation class which really helped her. She is not able to get the same level of benefit doing this at home as her thoughts & fears take over.

The help also involved helping her to build confidence to go out and take part in things of which is no longer happening. She now doesn't even go out on her own, even crossing a road frightens her. She is aware that this is not normal but can't improve the situation. This situation is making her frustrated and feeling more useless than before.

We are sorry you are experiencing difficulty in receiving help and support in the community. Due to changes in Lincolnshire how care and support is provided for preventative aftercare, this has caused some distress to patients who previously received support from Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

As from April 2012 preventative and support services is provided through the Managed Care Network. It is a coordinated managed and integrated network of groups and organisations providing preventative support & services to people who have experience of mental health issues.

If you would like to contact the PALS (Patient Advice & Liiaison Service) & Complaints Team either by email: pals@lpft.nhs.uk or telephone: 01529 222210 we can give you further information on how to access help & support through the managed care network.
