An elderly freind was hospitalised following an emergency operation. before entering hospital she was fully continent and very independant. However the operation left her incontinent and confused. the nurses on the ward treated her as if she was always like this and would always be like this and would not recover and her optiosn were a nursing home. They did not listen to the family nor the individual. The patient said that she felt she was treated roughly by some nurses but we could not verify this. It was a medical ward and there seemed to be no interest in anything but healing the wound (not the mental or future care aspects). A machine attached to a patient nearby was constantly going off and being ingored for long periods during times that we were vistiing. A sister on the ward was rude and dismissive. It took a formal conplaint to get things moving and that was an almost immediate move to a CIC bed in a care home. Thankfully after a few weeks the patient was back in her own home, back in her former good mental capacity. I lost my faith in the nursing profession after this. And a previous incident at Pinderfields with my father which was very similar (ignored by nurses, no information. Nurses not checking on patients for horus on end but chatting about intimate details of their night out (in loud voices) at the nursing station. What happened to patient care? Does it really always take loud voices and complaints to get decent care?
