About: Pinderfields General Hospital

Anything else?

I was referred in august 2012 by my gp due to pain and unusual menstrual bleeding. I attended pinderfields for various app for scans, biopsies camera investigations and polyp removal. On every app i was seen by a different doctor and had to explain from the beginning what my problem was. I got frustrated as each doctors opinion differed as to treatment from the last doctor i had seen and i felt i was fghting for the right to treatment each time i was there. I was scheduled for diagnostic laproscopy on 18th march before i have a hysterectomy so doc could decide whether i have total or subtotal also to look for endemotriosis. All i can say is my experience on arrival at pinderfields that morning to going for surgery was worrying and insulting. My initial nurse who helped me prepare was wonderfull. After she showed me to female waiting area as i was in dressing gown another nurse told me to wait in the corridor as a doctor needed that room. I wasnt given an apology and her attitude was it didnt matter, she couldnt see it a problem as the women was in gowns. She vocalised this loudly when questioned by my initial nurse. As an adult woman i do not wish to sit in a crowded area in inadequate clothing in close proximity to male patients. What about promoting dignity, and choice. Then i was called to speak to my consultant who apparantly was not even in the building yet a.d i was faced with a young man who turned out to be a junior assistant training up. This young man had me having hysterectomy that morning and when i tried correcting him he was quite patronising explaining the difference in terms even my 5 year grandson would understand am sure! I tried telling this young man i knew which procedure i was having so he cut me short saying to wait till consultant arrived! Never felt as insulted or my knowledge rejected before. My consultant showed up very quickly after that where he confirmed what i was saying and after he had to re do my consent form and sick note for work as the junior had also done them incorrectly everything went smoothly and my care in the anaesthetic and recovery room was exemplary. I am now waiting for hysterectomy date and i really hope im not waiting long as my problem has taken over my life. And i truly hope my treatment will be vastly improved
