My relative is a cancer patient who has pneumonia and is currently on ward 11 having moved from medical assessment. We can't visit due to norovirus outbreak. She says the nurses have told her she has to stay in bed and won't even help to use the commode. They have refused to go and get a hoist to move her. Although she has limited mobility she is able to walk to the toilet but needs help to stand but she is being refused the basic right to use the toilet. Also complains of very rough handling on manual handling. Describes herself as being thrown around. She is at a very difficult stage in now limited life and is very unhappy with the care she is receiving. She has been in hospital several times in the last 6 months and this is the first time we've had any cause for complaint. The staff haven't given any of us any information on her condition and don't listen to the family. We have even had to resort to putting her on the commode ourselves, now we can't get in to visit and we are very concerned about her lack of care and she also has a pressure sore but no pressure mattress.
This time her care is totally unacceptable. Don't know how any of us will cope with this if she has to return again, she'll probably refuse to go. We went through A&E first without any problems or cause for complaint. It is purely the poor nursing care she is recieving
