I attend respiratory medicine on a regular basis as an out patient , I have had 1st class care from a fantastic team. My biggest problem with attending Manchester Royal is the battle to avoid the patients and staff smoking outside every exit and entrance door and the smokers who think it is ok to smoke at the bus stop (on hospital premises) and leave cigarette buts everywhere. MRI is a fantastic hospital and I feel privileged to receive care here. I have confronted smokers at the entrance and received a torrent of abuse. Would it be possible for somebody to address this problem please.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to learn that your experience was not as positive as we would hope due to the number of people smoking outside the entrances to the hospital and at the bus stop. It is important to us that comments are heard and seen as an opportunity provided to the service to make changes and improvements wherever possible.

In response to your comment, the Trust operates a 'no smoking' policy on site. You are correct that members of the public do not always adhere to these signs and on those occasions are requested to stop smoking or moved off the hospital site when seen smoking by a member of staff. Unfortunately this is a national problem since the No Smoking ban was enforced legally and is not pleasant for patients, visitors, or staff. Please be assured that most staff smoke outside the main entrance and disciplinary measures are in place if this is not witnessed and reported. The Trust is currently working to review the placement of smoking shelters to assist patients and relatives who smoke and reduce the numbers smoking outside the main entrance.
