"mixed review on first born"

About: Dewsbury & District Hospital

Anything else?

i was a week overdue with my first baby when my waters went, i arrived at the hospital in the early hours and was asked numerous questions about what had happened, i got the impression that the staff thought i was overreacting as it was my first baby and i look younger than i actually am... i knew it was my waters that had gone even though it was my first baby... i flooded the bathroom floor!! but because i hadnt had a show the midwife still wasnt convinced, so she gave me an internal examination, she told me that my waters hadnt gone and sent me home to wait for my labour to apparently start, however a few hours later when my contractions kicked in and i went back up i was told by the same midwife that infact my waters had gone earlier and she them came over all caring and asked if i wanted to stay... must have realised that she had made a big mistake! some other members of staff also made sarcastic comments which made me feel like i couldnt show my pain and that i was overreacting and spoke to me like a child im 24! the next day i was induced and the care i received from the midwife in labour couldnt have been more different she was fantastic! made me feel completeley at ease, i was also examined by numerous other doctors when i comlained that the epidural had worn off of one side of my body and i told them numerous times that i could feel a pressure pain to the left hand side of my pelvis- this seemed to be ignored, i reached 9.5cm after nearly 18hours in labour then at the last minute another midwife who had come on shift examined me and said i was right my daughters head was turned so couldnt be delivered naturally! i was then rusheoff for an emergency c-section, again i had a rude nurse in theatre (again i felt this was because of how young i look!) but my surgeon was lovely and at one point scalded the nurse for her rudeness! i nearly had to have a blood transfusion and the aftercare on the after care on the maternity ward was ridiculous! i received no help on my first day after having the section and my partner had to get my meals and help me to and from the canteen... i was in there around a week and on my last day i was told in the morning i would be allowed to go home but was made to wait until around 6pm! im due to have my 2nd in june adn im terrified of what will happen this time- im hoping for a natural delivery so i dont have to stay! the midwifes i had during labour were fantastic, i will definatley be standing my ground this time with the staff and will not be made to feel like im overreacting when i know what my bodys going through!

If you are anxious about returning to hospital we can arrange for you to speak to one of the midwifery team who will be able to discuss any concerns and offer reassurance. If you would like to progress this then please forward your details to :pals@midyorks.nhs.uk
