"Grateful for the preparation the staff did with my 3yr old son before theatre"

About: Royal Albert Edward Infirmary / Paediatrics

(as a parent/guardian),

My son fell and cut his lower lip while I was away at a Conference. My father with my wife was asked to bring him up for assessment to the Maxillofacial unit the following day.

He was assessed by the Surgeon and suturing arranged. He was taken to Rainbow; the Paediatric Ward.

The play Assistant and Nursing staff prepared my 3 yr old for theatre by showing him photographs of theatre staff in their theatre scrubs, the equipment used for monitoring.

With this prior preparation the experience was made less daunting and frightening.

What could have been a traumatic experience for a 3yr old was made much less frightening for him.

Thank you for taking the time to post your most positive comments in respect of the Maxillofacial Department and Rainbow Ward. We were please to learn of your experience at the Trust and I will ensure that these are passed to the Director of Performance for the Division of Surgery, as well as the Heads of Nursing for both Surgery and Children's Services, who will be sure to share your comments with the staff concerned.

May I take the opportunity to extend our best wishes to your son for his continued recovery.

Kind regards
