"A&E Mental Health: please make it so I don't get scared"

About: University College Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

I have to go there if my Mental Health is poor. I get very scared because of the noise and you get left for many hours on your own with a security guard stopping you from going to the toilet or leaving. This is when you have not been sectioned or detained. Just taken there and left by ambulance or police or gone myself there as told to by GP. Please make it so I do not get scared. Putting me in a room with a camera is frightening me. Please could there be a radio or newspapers or water to drink. Or someone to ask if I am OK.

Thank you for taking the time to raise your concerns with us. I am sorry that you feel scared when you have been in the department. We strive to ensure that all our patients are and feel safe and well cared for. The facility is being re-developed to make it more appropriate and of a higher standard, so we are addressing the issues that you have raised. In the future should you feel this way please ask to speak to the nurse in charge who will be able to assist you.
