I have been experiencing pain in her right eye for the last 7-8 months and have made frequent visits to my GP & the Leics. Royal Infirmary. Having met several doctors all of which have provided differing views and prescribing me with a variety of (steroid) drugs, it was only until the 18/02/13 when I made a visit to the Eye Clinic (Windsor Bldg) that the consultant stated my eye pressure was 45 (double what it should be) and that I was diagnosed with 'Open Acute Angle Glaucoma'. The pressure was brought down with injections and the next day laser surgery scheduled for both of my eyes was undertaken to open up the drainage channels in the corners of my eyes. 4 weeks on (20/03/13), I am still experiencing pain in the same right eye and after revisiting the hospital was informed to stop using steroids that were originally prescribed by the Surgeon who had performed the orig. laser treatment as this was the possible cause of the on-going pain I've been experiencing. The consultant of the 20th has now referred me to the glaucoma specialists / dept. and have received an appointment for this in May.
I have lodged a complaint via the NHS's website but am not that hopeful that I will receive a favourable outcome let alone a response. in the meantime I exploring a private consultation which is likely to be vey expensive.
There clearly appears to be a lack of communication amongst Consultants at the hospital as well as with my GP which is evidenced by the fact that my family GP has not had any visibility of of the hospital notes; he was shocked to hear that at a visit to him yesterday, I'd received laser eye treatment and that he'd not received any info. About this. Each time I've seen my GP or the NHS, I've had to restart the whole process from scratch. This has had an impact my family, work and social life as my confidence has been knocked as a result of being unable to obtain a reliable service from the NHS to which I make regulars contributions to as a tax payer.
