"MOST staff were very dedicated ..."

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford)

(as the patient),

What I liked

MOST staff were very dedicated and wanted to their very best for their patients.

Most staff were cheerful.

The ward was bright and cheerful.

What could be improved

More staff on the ward to enable bed ridden patients to be washed before visiting time.

More staff on the ward to prevent falls where patients attempted to get themselves to the toilet but had waited more than 35 mins for help or for a bedpan. Staff were sometimes unaware that a patient had fallen because able patients or visitors rescued the situation.

More qualified staff on the ward so that patients in pain were not left for two hours or more waiting for analgesics after requesting them.

Fresh water given to patients on a daily basis, especially at weekends.

More qualified staff around so that ten and a half hours did not pass between told you could go home and actual discharge.

Particularly at weekends/ overnight it would be immensely helpful to all patients not to feel afraid to request help/drugs....it seemed as though we were a real inconvenience to staff.

Ensuring that bed ridden patients were washed before visiting time at 2.00pm.
