"A&e possible broken foot"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital

Anything else?

When arriving at the hospital the reception staff were helpful, and the wait to see the triage nurse was quick. However the nurse seemed very uninterested and didn't even take the time to check my injury and just asked about 3 questions and had me sit back in the waiting room. I was then called round for an X-ray, this also happened quickly and the lady was very pleasant. Once back waiting in a&e to see a doctor I started to feel uncomfortable as I was a young girl surrounded by aggressive drunks that had been brought in by the police. A&e seemed oddly quiet with only 5 of us waiting to be seen, however I waited a further 2 hours and when I was finally called into the doctor he poked my foot, flashed an X-ray briefly on the screen and said its fine you can go. I received no advice on what to do as it was very swollen, bruised, and painful the bear weight, and was in and out within 2 minutes. I felt completely dismissed as if a waste of their time. The following day I was in a lot of pain still so went to a minor injury unit where my foot was properly assessed and I was told I had a hematoma to the top of my foot. Overall my visit to a&e was extremely disappointing and a waste of time, and as a student nurse it has made me question the type of profession I am entering. Next time I am I injured I won't bother.

I am very sorry to hear that during your recent visit to the Emergency Department, after a long wait, you felt dimissed and not given advice about your injury or after care. This is not acceptable and I am sincerely sorry about your experience.

Please do get in touch with me so I can look into your care and obtain a few more details from you, so we can address the concerns you have raised and make sure this does not happen again.

You can contact me on 01634 830000 x3874.
