We took our 4 yr old son to a&e as advised by NHS direct because he had a high temp and developed a pin prick rash.
We were seen quickly by staff and a young doctor came to assess his condition. The doctor left to discuss our son with his superior as he was not sure what was causing the rash, saying potentially it could be scarlet fever. The doctor returned and asked if he could take a photo of the rash so his superior could see. He returned again saying that it was safe to go home even though they didn't know what the rash was.
I do not understand why the senior doctor on the ward could not spare 5 mins to look at an unknown rash on a young child. I took my son to our gp as advised by the young doctor and scarlet fever was diagnosed a day and a half later and antibiotics were prescribed.
If the senior doctor had come to examine our son, maybe he would have been given antibiotics earlier, saving him feeling unwell for longer.
Good service given by staff who dealt with us, however not impressed by senior members of staff.
