I had suffered from gallstone attacks for almost 3 years, being young i was told by my Gp to 'diet' control. I am within range for my BMI and fairly fit and healthy, I have just been unfortunate to suffer each time I did choose a fatty meal or cheese. As my symptoms worsened I say my GP and insisted i was referred to see a consultant. This took place in December and then I was listed for day surgery, which I had on the 20th of March.

My whole experience has been a pleasant one, every staff member I met was friendly, introduced themselves and made me feel at ease. Nothing was too much trouble, this extends to the cleaners and catering staff on the day case unit and the theatre and recovery staff.

From arrival at the daycase unit I was greeted by a friendly receptionist, taken to a comfortable recliner in the admission area before walking to the theatre. The staff in recovery were friendly, and explained everything to me even though I was still 'out of it'. Back on the ward the staff repeated my blood pressure etc frequently, kept me updated and offered me a choice of food and drink. Once I was able to eat and pass urine, I was given the chance to talk around before meeting the surgeon again. I was then discharged home with medication for pain relief and some antibiotics and dressings with advice leaflets.

I am now at home resting for a few weeks before returning back to work, my only regret is that i did not have the surgery any earlier. I am now gallstone free, and just had to worry about a few aches from the surgical sites which I am conident will heal promptly. I will certainly recommend the hospital to anyone I know requiring day surgery. I would like to extend my thanks to the nursing team that took care of me.
