"Noise levels preventing rest"

About: East Surrey Hospital / General surgery

(as a relative),

Having spent a night in the CDU, my husband was desperate to come home to get some rest. We are fully aware of the constant noise occurring in an acute hospital but feel in this instance the majority of noise could have been reduced by thoughtful staff.

One member of untrained staff had a loud 40 minute phone conversation on the ward phone, whilst a poorly patient was waiting to be fed his lunch.

There was also the constant banging of doors throughout the corridor and bins slamming shut, staff members had conversations in normal tone in the early hours disturbing everyone.

He is very grateful for the care I have received but if ever need to return would recommend the use of earplugs!

Dear amazon

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments on your husband's time in CDU. I am concerned to hear of his experiences which do not meet the standards that we wish to deliver to our patients. If with his permission, you could forward me his details, I would be keen to investigate this further.

Best Wishes

Susan Aitkenhead

Chief Nurse
