"I feel my PTSD is poorly understood"

(as the patient),

I am an ex-service man who has been diagnosed with PTSD after serving in Afghanistan.

The care I have received from the NHS has been very poor - I am under the recovery team in Grantham. I feel some staff insinuate that I am pretending to be ill and seem to have no idea what PTSD is like. The social worker I met was sarcastic and bossy and told me that they have patients with real problems to see to, and really made me feel like I was wasting her time.

The psychologist was nice, but I only saw her for 6 times so am no better.

I am very disappointed in how bad the care is - when I was under the RAF mental health services they were brilliant and really understood how I felt.

I strongly feel that if the NHS is to look after us they should be properly trained. The social worker didn't even know what a flash back was.

Thank you for your posting following your recent experience with our services. I am sorry to hear that it has left you disappointed. Unfortunately we cannot comment on individual cases but we do have a Veteran Liaison Person to guide ex- service men and women through our services.
