"length of time to see doctor"

About: Sunderland Teaching PCT

(as the patient),

Yesterday I fulfilled an appointment to have ultrasound on my abdomen at a 'walk in centre' 3miles from home. The nurse who did the ultrasound told me my doctor would have the results in 10 minutes. I was therefore to make an appointment to see my doctor for the results. Today I rang the doctors reception to make an appointment to see my GP for another matter and also to obtain the results from the ultrasound.

The receptionist told me I could not have an appointmet to see 'any' GP before the 2nd week in April. I explained that I work 'offshore' and would be going back to work next week and would like to see the doctor before I went back to work for 2 weeks for a problem and also to receive the ultrasound results. The receptionist was was unmoved and adamant that I could not be seen before the 2nd week in April despite my explanation of the predicament I am in. I was told the results from the ultrasound would take a number of weeks to reach the doctor. Despite my repeatedly stating to the receptionist that the nurse who took the ultrasound assuring me the results would be with my doctor in 10 minutes.

The receptionist told me to phone 'sometime next week (when I will be offshore) to see if I could obtain the results of the ultrasound. ' The results of which could have very serious implications on my health, bearing in mind I wont be due back at home till the third week of April at the earliest.

I find this a most unsatisfactory state of affairs and am disgusted, especially when our Prime Minister is preaching about 'compassion' in the health service at present. Apart from that, I have contributed to the NHS for the last 45yrs and now find I must wait 3 weeks before I can see my doctor, or any doctor.
