"Eye don't believe it"

Got what turned out to be a metal file in my eye on Monday the 18th of march.

The last time I visited any hospital or surgery was 10 years ago when I got superglue in the same eye. I was at the hospital for 9 hours that time.

I didn't got into A&E on the Monday because my eye was bearable and I knew it was likely to be a long wait. I did not have time to sit in a waiting room for half a day and was hoping it might sort itself out.

On Wednesday my colleges convinced me to go into A&E. I arrived at 3:15am (I work nightshifts). I can't fault any of the staff, both receptionists were friendly. The nurse slightly less so but still fine. After seing the nurse she informed me there was a long wait of 3.5 to 4 hours maximum, I asked if it was a bad time and was there a good time to come back. She did say 6 am would be better, my bedtime is 7:30 am so I didn't want to do that.

So I waited, looked at the gloshospitals A&E waiting times and considered driving to Stroud for a 15 min waiting time. I decided not to and 4 hours went past. when i was not called in at that point I just had a gut feeling I was not going to get to see a doctor until the day shift started. I was correct and I was not called in until 8:30 am, 5.25 hr wait.

The doctor was nice , very apologetic. She obviously not an eye specialist and with my foreign body being so small I was not really expecting it to be sorted out immediately. She phoned the eye specialist and managed to get me an appointment in the eyeford ward at the exact time I needed it at (I had been awake for 20 hours at this point and desperately wanted to sleep). I leaft A&E at 9:30 . 6.25 hrs after going in.

I got some sleep and returned to the eyeford ward at 4:30pm, waited 30min before seing doctor who was again very nice. She skilfully picked out the tiny metal file in a few min. That was it, I was back off to work again. Close to the amount of time with previous eye problem spent.

I got what I expected yeaterday. Was it good enough? I don't think so. Could probably do with another nightshift doctor or atleast a nurse who can make appointments to return if it is something like this.
