"Prostate cancer treatment over 3 months"

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford)

Anything else?

I had a consultation in Oncology early in 2011 and then one year of treatment for prostate cancer, including radiotherapy as a day patient, with 10 minutes of radiotherapy daily between early August and the end of September. Because I lived on the west side of Dartmoor I was able to use a one-bedroom flat on the hospital site while I was having radiotherapy, to save three hours of driving daily while feeling unwell.

During 2011 and to a lesser extent 2012 I had various other investigations, and all my experiences of Wonford to date have been excellent: the care good and effective, the atmosphere always pleasant.

If I have one small criticism it is that no-one spotted that when I had radiotherapy I was severely constipated, and that may have made the after effects of radiotherapy more unpleasant than they would otherwise have been. At least it would have been helpful to have known about it. The prostate biopsy was also extremely unpleasant, but I don't think that was in any way the fault of the hospital!, but simply the nature of the procedure.

All in all, I can't speak too highly of Wonford Hospital.
