"A Quality of Life"

About: Royal Berkshire Hospital

Anything else?

Over the past fifteen years I have had cause to regularly visit and stay at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. At times it has been very difficult for me especially as during this time my wife, after a long debilitating illness, passed away at the hospital. She was only 46 when she died. I was able to witness the amazing support she received from the staff at the Cancer Centre. Without doubt the palliative care she received helped her to maintain a quality of life that she enjoyed to the end. I too have been very fortunate to have received superb specialist surgery and care from staff in the Department of Orthopaedics who have treated me for a debilitating spinal condition. I have also benefited from the care of the Department of Orthotics and Prosthetics who have supplied me with orthotics to help me walk. I am so pleased with the outcome of all the treatment and now feel that I have regained some of my mobility and in turn a quality of life that I thought I had lost. This is indeed a hospital and trust to be grateful for.

Response from Royal Berkshire Hospital

Thank you so much for your kind words relating to the care that you and your late wife received from various departments in the Royal Berkshire Hospital. The staff at the cancer centre work very hard to ensure a good standard of care at what is a very difficult and stressful time for all involved. We are also pleased to hear that the palliative care your wife received supported her quality of life. It is the aim of the hospital palliative care team to support all areas of the Trust to deliver this level of care and thank you for taking the time to post this review - we will ensure that your feedback is shared with the relevant teams. Thank you also for your positive comments on the treatment and care that you received from our Orthopaedic and Orthotics teams. They will be delighted that they have played a part in keeping you well and that you had such a good experience, something we strive for with every patient we care for.
