"Very happy"

About: Wansbeck Hospital

Anything else?

I went to A&E with a suspected miscarriage. I was initially assessed and taken onto a bed within A&E within 15 minutes, and with bloods taken (unfortunately these were lost and sadly i did lose my baby too). 10 minuutes after that i was taken up to the ward and had some absolutely lovely nurses look after me, i was so please as this was where i actually finally lost my baby. I was put into a side room by myself and cared for so well during the night. The only downside was the team of nurses that discharged me - they didnt seem to care as to why i was in, they others were absolutely lovely and i'm pleased i was discharged when i was.

Dear Madam

First of all can I say just how sorry I was to hear about the loss of your baby- it is extremely kind of you to write to us at such a difficult time.

We are very pleased to hear that you were seen so quickly in A&E and transferred to the appropriate ward speedily. We work very hard to ensure that all our patients receive the privacy and dignity they deserve and it sounds in your case as though we got this just right. We will certainly let the nurses on the ward know of your lovely comments, they will be very pleased to know their work is appreciated.

It does feel as though there was far more we could have done for you on the day of discharge from hospital. We want our patients to be treated with kindness and compassion by all staff they come into contact with. We are proud of our standards but we need them to be consistently applied for all patients, every day, all the time. I am really sorry if this marred your experience of our care, which up to that point had been so positive.

Thank you for drawing this to our attention, we intend to act quickly to see what improvements we need to make for the future. If you felt able to contact me to provide more details, that would be helpful. My email is annie.laverty@nhct.nhs.uk .

Equally, I will quite understand if you’d prefer not to at this time.

Sending our condolences and thanks,

Annie Laverty
