"the care on ward 17"

About: The James Cook University Hospital

Anything else?

I was recently a patient on this ward and while I was there I was disappointed in the care given. The midwives were all extremely overworked and as a result were not able to give 100 ,percent care.On the other hand, the care given from all the health care assistants was second to none, they all had the time to talk, listen and emphasise.Dont know what I would have done if it wasn't for them, they are invaluable to the ward and kept me sane! They bring joy to the place, especially at night time when I needed support with breast feeding when I was at my lowest and thinking of giving it up!

Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay at The James Cook University Hospital for the birth of your baby. I am sorry to learn you are dissapointmed with the care that you received during your stay.

I have forwarded your concerns to the management team for the department of maternity services who are currently reviewing staffing levels on the ward and are in the process of employing an extra midwife for night shifts. The department are also reviewing the health care assistant and ward clerk numbers to provide extra support.

I also note from your feedback you were happy with the care you received from the healthcare assistants and I shall ensure your kind comments are forwarded to them.

With best wishes

Mrs Linda Oliver
