"Wait in A&E "

About: Southern General Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as a friend),

Recently we visited the accident and emergency department at SGH Glasgow. I brought my girlfriend in as she is struggling to walk on her foot.

We waited for 2 and a half hours in a waiting area that was as cold as outside, it was freezing! When we were finally seen, her foot was not even properly looked at, and when I told the doctor I couldn't afford decent paracetamol for her (my girlfriend) the doctor laughed and walked away.

Another 20 minute wait and the doctor came back with paracetamol and ibuprofen and told us we could have waited till Friday to see our GP as it wasn't an emergency.

Overall I am disgusted with my girlfriends' treatment from that doctor. I am from England and the service is a lot better, at least down South you are treated with respect, this needs to get sorted asap. There is no reason for doctors and nurses to be rude to someone who is in obvious discomfort.

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to provide your feedback.

I am sorry that this posting was not acknowledged at the time, we had a break in our use of Patient Opinion, but we have now resumed doing so, and I thought it was still important to acknowledge your posting.

You raised a number of issues that are of concern and I have passed your comments on to the manager responsible for these services to share your experience with local staff.

Paul
