"General hospital experiences fantastic."

About: University Hospital Of North Durham

Anything else?

I have used this hospital for over 20 years and have had the use of so many departments. Urology, Surgery; Urinary Medicine; HIV services; psychology; Pain management; Physiotherapy; A and E; orthopaedics; Pathology almost weekly ; Plastics; Oncology; and (unfortunately ENT !!!!) Gastrology and even neurology and I can honestly say it is one of the best hospitals I have used over many years. I form strong and bonded relationships with consultants and Drs alike as well as support staff. Nurses are almost always friendly and caring and when dealing with multiple illness centres for many years these things are VITAL to ones life.

In general I feel the Hospital has kept me safe and cared for and in the most i have managed to retain my dignity in when my body repeatedly gives up on the idea of allowing me dignity. That is what the staff are there for to enable dignity to exist under the worst of circumstances and I thanks you all for that over the years. HIV services are unique and personal and when faced with the stigma and discrimination that is so prevalent in this area of the country the shine like a lighthouse dark.

I find the environment of the Hospital interesting and colourful and its nice to see original art and so decent gardens internally. Reception staff are usually great and friendly one or two department are a bit lacking but I suppose you cannot expect perfection.

Same can be said for some of the medical staff in all my years only had one dodgy nurse and doctor. And one nasty situation recently where i was starved for 30 hours simply because a technician in the CAT scan department refused to give surgical staff a time slot for two days when I could have a scan so discharged myself...starvation only needed for 6 hours for this scan.

The parking is great flexible if you are disabled. access is great to all areas. and the Food is pretty good in the restaurant and the wards.

I think it is a pretty great hospital and thanks for keeping me alive over the years
