I have used the pathology lab services many times over the years and can't speak highly enough about the staff. They are all clearly very skilled and experienced...my young daughter had to give a blood sample recently and the phlebotomist could not have been more gentle or helpful if he'd tried. Even when extremely busy the dept runs smoothly and as quickly as possible to ensure minimal waiting times and it has very convenient, drop-in opening hours. Shame the whole experience is tainted slightly by the extortionate parking fees this hospital charges.

Glad to hear that our phlebotomy team at Hertford County gets your thumbs up for the care and support they provide to young and old alike. They will be delighted by your feedback - which we will make sure reach them as quickly as possible.

On the issue of parking - it costs our Trust some £1 million to provide car parking facilities every year across our hospitals every year. We get no funding for this service, so we have option but to charge. Those that use our hospitals do so for different reasons, which makes setting time bandings hard - make them too short and we have people waiting in our outpatient departments worrying about having to return to their cars to get new tickets. Make them too long and everyone feels short changed.

Hertford County also faces a problem in that it is close to a railway station used by commuters and Hertford town centre, where parking is restricted. Charge less and the problem could be that both patients and staff would have nowhere to park at all.

But accept these are reasons, not excuses - sadly parking charges are a necessity, but we do keep the service under review at all times.
