"Cavendish ward Leigh infirmary"

About: Leigh Infirmary Mh Oupatients Clinic / Women's Mental Health Unit

(as the patient),

I was admitted to Leigh infirmary in February this year, and can honestly say it was the worst week of my life. Some of the staff were nice but a few were horrendous if I said anything I felt as though I was being ignored. I asked to see a doctor one day five times before he came at two in the morning, I asked to leave but was told I would be sectioned by the nurses. I'Il admit I lost it a few times and did throw a dish and was escorted to my room to cool down. Then the next day they took my phone off me because I was saying inappropriate things to my children. That was on the Saturday when I was really not well, but they took the phone off me on Thursday and I was being accused of making inappropriate calls. I tried to explain that I had apologised to my children and it was over with. I asked to use the ward phone and was told no but then someone else asked and she was allowed. I'll admit I said one rule for one and one rule for another so she threw the phone at me but she was taken outside for a cig to calm down.

Then later on there was an incident with a patient and the staff were dealing with that. I was stood at the bottom of the corridor when this person attacked me she pulled clumps of hair out and punched me and stamped on my toe and broke it. I was taken out and allowed to see my visitors the police came and decided it was both our faults but everybody saw her attack me and did nothing. I told the staff about my toe and a doctor would be called. I'm still waiting. I slept on the sofa in the telly room as I was terrified of being attacked again.

I finally saw the psychiatrist on the Friday who discharged me. I told him I was to scared to stay. I will never ever go in Leigh infirmary again. I didn't feel safe or got any better and I'm still ill at home but just getting this off my chest makes me feel a bit better.

I am sorry to hear that you that you were so unhappy with the care and treatment you received during your stay on the Cavendish Unit. Since that time we have been in the process of making significant changes within the wards in order to improve our patients' experience and ensure that admission to hospital is less distressing and of more therapeutic benefit.

I assure you that we take complaints of this nature very seriously and would welcome the opportunity to discuss your comments in order to be able to contribute to the improvements to our service.

If you feel able to discuss your experiences in more detail with me please contact my secretary on the number provided below and she will be happy to arrange a mutually convenient time for us to speak.
