"Dying patient moved without informing family"

About: Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital

Anything else?

dying patient moved from single room. family walked in room on next visit same day to find a man in the bed. family asked where our mum was and why she had been moved. told a infectious patient needed the single room. fine we accepted that. but no signs on door and we walked back into a ward with 6 patients. could have infected them all. why was the door open for us to walk in? no respect for our mother who died the next day. we were huddled behind the curtains and had no room for all the chairs so left standing.

no respect of how infections can be passed we dont know what the other had but i had a tummy bug next day. can not say the cause might have been just an upset tummy but worried me.

Thank you for taking time to provide us with feedback and particularly at a difficult time for you and your family. I am sorry that your mother was moved from the side- room without the family being informed. I will feed your concern back to staff on CDU. I am trying to work with our local provider of hospice services to enable faster access to the hospice service. It is sometimes difficult for us to provide a personalised service in a busy acute ward when the number if side-rooms is limited. Our staff find this disappointing too - they aim always to provide excellent care at the end of a person's life.

Please pass on my condolences to your family.
