"Renal transplant services"

About: Hammersmith Hospital

Anything else?

I underwent a kidney transplant at the end of November 2012. The live donor coordinator who supported me and my live donor for the 18 months prior to the transplant was kind caring well informed and accessible. All the consultants and doctors who have cared for me in the renal unit were excellent they discussed everything with me explaining what was going to happen and what to expect, they were happy to answer numerous questions and were reassuring despite being extremely busy all the time. Most of the nursing staff were very good but did not have enough time to meet the needs of all the patients and at times I was concerned at the staffing levels on the wards I have been an inpatient on. The radiologists were excellent explained exactly what they would be doing and were cheerful and friendly. The phlebotomists were excellent very skilled and cheerful which is important when you are having blood taken 4 times a day everyday and during the night. The surgeon who performed the transplant is extremely skilled and I thank him everyday for what he has done for me. The care I have received since discharge has been excellent the nursing staff in the transplant clinic are wonderful and the follow up and support from the renal team is very good. The only negative is that there are not enough beds to meet the demand and the staff are constantly juggling beds. The quality of the food provided to the patients needs to be significantly improved as it is poor and frequently unappetising and regularly a number of things offered on the menu were not available.

Based on the medical care I received I would not hesitate to recommend the West London Regional Transplant Service. ..
