"Childrens Ward at Colchester General Hospital"

About: Colchester General Hospital

Anything else?

This was the first time one of my children has been admitted to the new children's ward. The Bay that my son was in was spacious, comfortable and clean.

He was sent by our GP into the children's assessment unit first of all. When we arrived we were greeted by a friendly nurse who was expecting us and a bed had been allocated to him, he was then seen immediately. His initial assessment immediately put as all at ease with their calm, friendly manner. He was seen quickly by the doctors and we were happy with all aspects of the way he was treated. we were involved at all levels of his treatment and he was spoken to by all but one of the nurses during everything that was happening, allaying his fears and keeping him calm and retaining his confidence.

He was then admitted to the children's ward.He was treated well by the staff at all times, as were my husband and I. again he was spoken to by the doctors and nurses and involved in his treatment, we were all kept informed of everything that was happening at all times.

I was extremely happy with the care that he received. I felt the ward was well run and there was always someone on hand if i needed them. The nurses and all the staff were helpful and professional. There were also plenty of doctors available and my son was examined regularly.

Small things like the thermal cups available for parents to take hot drinks onto the ward and free TV viewing made a huge difference.

I would certainly be happy for my son to be treated here again, most importantly I think that he would be comfortable about returning here for treatment.

I wish that I knew the names of some of the doctors and other nurses that were involved in his treatment so that I could say a personal thank you to them all now for the way my son was cared for.

This was Colchester hospital at it's best.

Thank you for your kind words - it was heartening to read that your son had such a positive experience.

I've taken the liberty of forwarding your compliment to various colleagues, including our matron for children's services.

Our best wishes to you and your son.
