"Life-saving care at Lewisham Hospital"

About: University Hospital Lewisham / General surgery

(as the patient),

I had a perforated sub-duodenal ulcer and was near death. I was assessed and diagnosed at A&E and operated on a few hours later by Mr Steger and his team and then cared for, in a coma and hovering between life and death, by the brilliant Intensive Care Unit nurses and doctors.

One of my first memories when I came round was of the lovely and skilled physiotherapists who at first just brushed my hair and then later helped me to walk again. I was discharged home exactly a year ago.
