"Two cancelled appointments for a heart patient?"

About: St George's Hospital (Tooting) / Cardiology

(as a relative),

My father, who has a heart condition was due to visit St George's hospital in February 2013 and he received a call the day before to say it was doubtful if there was a bed for him and he had to phone at 8 am the next morning.

The appointment was cancelled by the hospital but they phoned us - ok.

The appointment was changed to March 2013 and he received written confirmation to be at the hospital for early morning. He checked the phone the day before and he didn't receive any messages from St George's Tooting.

We got up at 6am and drove to the hospital arriving there in time for our appointment in the freezing cold.

My father made his way to the ward in an extremely nervous state and on arrival he was told that there was no room for him and no bed and that the hospital should have telephoned him. No-one had.

He became very concerned especially and was told to contact appointments which he did - an answerphone.

No-one has yet had the courtesy to reply or apologise for the mistake.

Is this recommended procedure for heart patients?
