3 weeks ago my mother was admitted to Abinger Ward and since then she has deteriorated from a feisty stubborn person to a bedridden vague person.
She fell out of the hospital bed within the first few days, hit the side of her head, cut her ear and thoroughly bruised. It took the doctor 9-10 hours before a doctor came to see her and I was not at all impressed, even if it was a Saturday. Since then she started to feel wary of the nurses and her behaviour changed by the next day.
The day nurses seem OK but do not seem to get the concept of encouraging their patients to take their tables. My daughter went in and found the morning tables sitting in the medicine cabinet and the nurses said that my mother wouldn't take them and I also found the tablets left on the table in the evening which we gave her. All it takes is to sit and talk for at the most 5 mins to get her confidence and encourage her to take her tablets. Not taking the tablets regularly could well be part of the problem.
I feel so guilty for taking her to ESH and seeing the way she has deteriorated and feel so helpless.
