The term sounds technical and very complex. Well that is exactly what it is.
Earlier this month I was admitted as a day case for an Angiogram.
This involves inserting a number of tubes and wires at the groin up through arteries and into the heart as it is viewed by the doctors on an xray screen where they are able to monitor the structure and functionality of the heart.
The "procedure", as this sort of thing is called, does involve some risks that were described to me prior to signing the consent form. But any anxiety about that was soon dispelled by the very highest level of professionalism. organisation and obvious expertise. Consultant Cardiologist Dr Saha and every member of his team of doctors, technicians, nurses and orderlies including the friendly lady doing the dusting were an absolute credit to the Cardiology department, the East Surrey Hospital, the NHS, and mostly to themselves.
It may sound perverse for me to say I enjoyed the day I was in their care. But in terms of skills, outcome and dignity I did.
