"Investigation of a mole"

About: Chorley & South Ribble Hospital

Anything else?

My GP referred me to the Dermatology Clinic where I was seen on January 2nd at 9.0 am. I was very well briefed by the nursing staff, who were reassuring and and helpful. The clinical investigation was explained at each stage, and the findings talked thorough clearly with reference to the urgency for minor surgery. As time was found later that day I was called back and the mole removed. As the procedure was under local anesthetic the Consultant and team chatted about everyday things drawing me into the talk, thus greatly helping to lessen the tension and keep my mind off what was happening. I was given detailed information about how the wound would feel, heal and where to go to have the stitches out.

Three weeks later I was given the results of the biopsy. This feedback was very carefully done. It was a malignant melanoma but had been caught early enough to have not caused further spread into the lymph system. I was given further surgery to remove a little more flesh as an added insurance. A further biopsy showed no cancerous material left. Other blemishes are now being carefully monitored, photographed and measured. I am extremely lucky to have received such prompt, caring and rigorous treatment.
