About: Bath Clinic

Anything else?

very nauseous after op - but staff kept telling me I'd had drugs to stop this - made to feel as if I was too much trouble to them - very disorientated as coming round from aneasthetic - managed to sit up a bit and was sick on the bed, myself and the floor - son was present and he pressed the bell for a nurse and then tried to help me - nurse arrived at least 5 minutes later and just stood at the door asking what was wrong - son explained and she did get a bowl - held it out across me in the bed for him to put the dirty tissues in and then went away - totally disinterested in me! before he left for the evening my son tried to make a complaint about this and was told that 'she's had the anti-sickness drugs, she shouldn't have been sick' - not exactly professional! Later that evening I told this same nurse that I was in some pain - again she was off-hand and dismissive - I'd apparently had an injection at the end of the op and 'shouldn't be in any pain' - this was the only time I've ever been in hospital apart from when I had my children and I sincerely hope I never have to have any sort of treatment ever again - is it too much to ask that a nurse has some sort of inter-personnel skills?

We were very sorry to read this review, which is clearly not the feedback we would wish to, or normally, receive. We would agree with the reviewer that compassion and empathy are always of utmost importance, and in particular in the circumstances described. Although the comments are anonymous, we will be treating this as if it were a formal complaint because it is so untypical of the service we provide, and we will be investigating fully what happened in this instance. To assist us, it would be very helpful if the reviewer would contact us directly at the hospital and in confidence to give more information, but we recognise the right to anonymity and appreciate the time taken to give all feedback, which is always useful in ensuring we minimise any dissatisfaction in future.
