I was a patient within CAMHS from the ages of 14 and 18. When I turned 18 I was quickly forgotten about. The service failed to set the motions of my transition to the adult service, leaving me very much alone and in a vulnerable place. Subsequently I suffered a relapse (anorexia).
I did see an adult psychiatrist for a few weeks, however I felt that this was not efficient enough and I don't think they had the skills to provide me with the support and therapy that I needed. The psychiatrist only wanted to give me medication (anti-depressants) when I felt strongly that I did not need them.
4 years on and I do not even know if I am still on a waiting list for psychological therapy within adult services. I have never heard from them so maybe I am one of those who have fallen through the net within the mental health service in West Yorkshire.
I believe that the transition between CAMHS and adult services need to be a smoother one. I would like to note that the care I received as an adolescent was very good. I am only criticizing the transitional process, which is very poor.
