"Lack of nursing compassion at Thornbury Hospital"

About: Thornbury Hospital (Sheffield)

(as the patient),

Hello my story about thornbury,

reception staff great, porters were great, pharmacy staff great too. The nursing staff I did have a problem with. I arrived at Thornbury at 10pm, the nurse on duty did not even say hello or introduce herself. She told me to get onto the bed. I had arrived in a wheelchair struggling to walk so I found this task quite difficult and she did not help at all.

next morning i did see a number of staff including the doctor. They seemed more concerned with my departure time than anything else- I was asked this question by 4 different nurses. I told them all that I was expecting my pick up at 12 noon. I had been given a regime of painkillers, i was feeling very dizzy and mentioned this to a nurse. She did not seem to show much compassion. On my way out I had to visit the pharmacy to pick up more painkillers. the pharmacist noticed straight away that I was dizzy and said that this was a side effect of the drugs I was taking. This was not mentioned by the nurses.

When the doctor had come to see me he said a physiotherapist would come by. When a nurse came in at 11am to tell me i could go home when I wanted I said I was waiting for the physio. She told me the physio would not be coming.

I know nursing is a difficult profession but I did expect some compassion especially in private health care. I found most of the nurses who cared for me to be rude, surly and almost demeaning.
