"A&E Department a shambles"

About: North Manchester General Hospital

Anything else?

I was recently taken to A&E in an ambulance and although the care I received was generally ok I was shocked by the general cleanliness of the department. In particular the cubicle I was in had dried blood on the bed and floor and the toilet areas where vile - rust encrusted taps, wet floors, dirty toilet seats etc. I was also shocked by having blood taken by someone not wearing gloves who then cut himself but continued to treat me despite dripping blood!!! Also a old lady who was on her own called for help from a nurse for over 10 mins. She needed the toilet but was ignored repeatedly or told they were too busy to deal with her. They clearly weren't, and rolled their eyes when she called. I was horrified and found it extremely distressing - the lady sounded frightened and distressed. So A&E needs a massive shake up - their lapse attitude to patient care lets down the rest of the hospital where I have found some of the best nursing care possible (particularly ward F4).
