I visited ENT with a voice problem last year. My voice had been husky or non-existant at times for about a year. I was worried that I had throat cancer.
On examination with a camera the Specialist told me that my voice problem was caused by my voice box not functioning as it should due to the muscles being "slack." I was referred for Speech Therapy (I'm 69 years old). I really couldn't see how this was going to work but I went along as instructed and the result has been amazing.
My therapist gave me various exercises, which I must admit I viewed with scepticism. I did the exercises religiously and after only 4 consultations my Speech Therapist has discharged me with some maintenance exercises to keep on top of my problem.
I would recommend anyone with a voice problem to see a Speech Therapist and stick at the exercises. The result is amazing. Thanks to all concerned.
