"91 and discharged"

About: Royal Shrewsbury Hospital

Anything else?

My 91 year old mother had an ememrgency addmission to PRH and due to a severe gall bladder infection transferred to Ward 29S at RSH. the transfer was due to emergency surgery that in the PRH consultants opinion my mother needed. After nearly two weeks and put on a drain, was told upon visiting on the Thursday 28 Feb 2013 that she was being dischareged the next day. I questioned this as my mother seemed far from being well, very confused and still in a great deal of comfort,. The sister on duty and i quote tells us "your mother is medically fit to be discharged". This discharge leaves the drain in for up to 6-8 weeks and a catheter, no care package in place for when she got home (lives on her own) and bless her very confused.

We were told that they had patients lying on trolleys in corridors waitng for beds. On the day of discharge ther were only 3 people in the ward, the staff outnumbered the patients by 3-1. Where were these patients lying in corridors?

I give full praise to the Home Team social worker at PRH for finding my mother a respite bed in a beautiful nursing home, without them, the outcome does not even bear thinking about
