"eye department out patients"

About: Sandwell General Hospital

Anything else?

I took my mum for her appointment last week, when we arrived there was a huge number of patients waiting and no seats to sit on. Mum is 80 so can't expecty her to stand, no one offered to get her a seat. We waited about 1 hour then got called by a nurse who took details and tested her sight. Then we had to wait again for the Dr. We had waited around half an hour and the Dr called my mums name. As we got up to go to him her came towrds us and inserted eye drops into my mums eyes in front of the whole waitng room and then told us we had to wait a further 20 minutes whilst that took affect. I was amazed that he did that in the waiting room, we were not given a choice. Where is the dignity and respect that you hear about??

Finally 2o minutes later we went in to his toom to see him and all he did was moan about how many patients he had to see and her called a nurse in and told her that he could not see this mnay patients and who had booked them in. She gave him a name and he phoned her to complain, with us watching on.......

Need i say any more.

I am very sorry to hear about your experience at the Eye department at Sandwell hospital. We always expect our staff to be courteous and to put patient dignity first. If you want to email me with further details I will look into what happened. I will also forward your comments to the department and ask them to look at how they deal with busy clinics.
